Makenzie is originally from the granite state, however, got bit by the travel bug and moved to Jackson, Wyoming many years ago. She still loves the beauty and wildness of Wyoming, but when her husband and she had their son they wanted to be closer to family in the northeast. Four years ago, she packed up her five year old, two terrified cats, a just rescued beagle, and 17 year’s worth of “life” and moved to Vermont. She and Gregg both love Vermont and agree that Wyoming and Vermont share likenesses that have made the transition smoother.
She has worked in the education field for over fourteen years in public schools, as well as, early learning centers. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Native American Studies from the University of Montana at Missoula. She started as the new Executive Director in October 2018 and has cherished her time making personal connections with both the children and their families.
The ultimate vision she has for WECEC is twofold and rooted in both the present and the future. For the present, her goal is for parents to feel good about their childcare choice, and that the children are safe, engaged, educated, and smiling. Her vision for the center’s future is to continue providing the quality of care that is associated with a 5 STAR center. She is also committed to offering enrichment opportunities that support our curriculum.
